Opportunities

Science Workshops Facilitator

We are looking for a couple of Facilitators for our Children's Science Workshops.

A key part of our service is a series of live interactive workshops delivered on-line, that children can follow while doing the experiments at home. The workshops are open to a limited number of children participating on site, depending on social distancing restrictions and a larger number on-line.

We will be launching the first series within the next couple of months and we have two casual positions open for the role of Facilitator for Children’s Science Workshops.

About the Role

The workshops will initially include 3-4 on-site participants and one or two Facilitators who will guide the activities on site as well as presenting to and interacting with the on-line remote participants. Workshops are intended to be for around 2 hours, usually covering around 5 experiments.

The role of Facilitator includes the following tasks:

  • Preparation of workshop activities including materials and equipment for experiments, securing of venues and general logistics.
  • Preparation of presentation material and instructions as required.
  • Registration of participants and communications with them as required, before and after a session.
  • Facilitation of on-site workshops with simultaneous live interaction with on-line participants. (There will be two facilitators for each session working as a team.)
  • Preparation of material instruction sheets and videos, for inclusion in promotional activities as well as on-line guides and resources.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

The selected candidate(s) will receive full training in the Scisizz suite of products and methods. The following skills and background will be required:

  • A background and interest in science. A knowledge of physics, chemistry and biology, to high school level is required. Undergraduates in disciplines with a reasonable science content are likely to be well suited as would those with some training or background in Education.
  • An engaging and effective manner when presenting to children.
  • Excellent presentation skills including confidence and ideally some experience participating in video materials. Knowledge and experience working in live interactive mode on-line would be advantageous.
  • Experience and/or willingness to learn about managing on-line interactive video content, including basic sound and video equipment.
  • Good writings skills.
  • Knowledge and/or willingness to learn the basics of producing web content and editing video and audio material using simple tools will be an advantage.
  • A current working with children check will be required as a condition of engagement.

The Position

The role will initially be on a casual basis with rosters notified well in advance. The requirements are expected to grow rapidly with increasing demand.

Some weekend work will be required as workshops will be run out of school hours.
